Music director and organist of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, will play an organ recital in St. Mary’s Church to open this year’s Centennial celebrations. The program is the same as the inaugural recital played by Charles M. Courboin on August 25th, 1925. Come hear beautiful music spanning four centuries, taking full advantage of the capabilities of our magnificent organ. Admission is free.

Winner of the 2024 Poister Organ Competition

Believing the magic and the joy that music can bring into peoples’ lives, Valentina Qishan Huang is a passionate performer, collaborator, and teacher. Her most-recent awards are the first prizes from the Poister Organ Competition and the Fort Wayne National Organ Playing Competition in 2024. As a young advocate of the instrument, Valentina seeks to fuse her cultural heritage into this extraordinary instrument, through the exploration of new music on the organ.

Luther College Organist Alexander Meszler performs a 24-hour (5:00p.m. to 5:00p.m.) version of John Cage's 1987 Organ2/ASLSP (As Slow as Possible). This will be the longest known complete single-performer performance of the piece; further artistic explanation is provided in program notes found below.
