Much of Kerner & Merchants' tuning activities are handled through annual contracts for which
service rates and schedule are pre-agreed. Individual service calls charged at an hourly rate
can also be requested. The frequency of tuning depends on organ design and condition,
vulnerability to environment, and the organist's desire for accurate or special tonality.
Activities specified in a typical tuning contract include the following:
-
Visual and mechanical inspection of the console
-
Listening tests combined with individual-pipe tuning adjustments
-
General inspection of air supply, electrical supply, etc.
-
Lubrication and adjustment of electrical motors
-
General reinspection following adjustments
Some of our minor maintenance activities include such items as:
-
Repairing ciphering pipes
-
Re-leathering individual note valves
-
Reducing ambient noise
-
Troubleshooting electrical circuits and faulty switch contacts
